11/19/2005
Press release
12 casks of vitrified residues will be shipped from the COGEMA Logistics' railway terminal in Valognes (France) today to the Gorleben's storage facility (Germany).

According to the commercial contracts signed between the German power companies and COGEMA and to the intergovernmental agreements concluded between France and Germany, part of the nuclear spent fuel is sent to France for reprocessing. Return to Germany of the vitrified nuclear residues resulting from reprocessing is set by these intergovernmental agreements as well as by French law.

The casks used for transport fully comply with the very strict regulatory criteria defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nuclear material transportation meets national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety.
