The tenth transport of vitrified nuclear residues from France to Belgium, announced by the Belgian utility SYNATOM and COGEMA on January 13, left the COGEMA Logistics railway terminal in Valognes (France) today at 12h13 pm. It will arrive in Belgium as from January 18, 2006.
At the Mol (Belgium) train station, the cask containing 28 canisters of vitrified waste will be loaded on a special-purpose vehicle and transported to the BELGOPROCESS storage site in Dessel.
The cask used for transport fully complies with the very strict standards defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nuclear material transportation meets national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety.
