Ninth transport of vitrified waste from France to Germany

12 casks of vitrified waste will be shipped from the TN INTERNATIONAL’s railway terminal in Valognes (France) today to the Gorleben's storage facility (Germany).

According to the commercial contracts signed between the German power companies and AREVA NC and to the intergovernmental agreements concluded between France and Germany, part of the nuclear spent fuel used to be sent to France for reprocessing. Return to Germany of the vitrified nuclear waste resulting from reprocessing is set by these intergovernmental agreements and is in accordance with French law.

The casks used for transport fully comply with the very strict regulatory criteria defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nuclear material transportation meets national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety.
