The thirteenth transport of vitrified nuclear waste from France to Belgium, announced by the Belgian utility SYNATOM and AREVA NC on January 16, left the TN International railway terminal in Valognes (France) today at 11:45 am. Its arrival in Belgium is expected as from January 17, 2007.
At the Mol (Belgium) train station, the cask containing 27 canisters of vitrified waste will be loaded on a special-purpose vehicle and transported to the BELGOPROCESS storage site in Dessel.
The cask used for transport fully complies with the very strict standards defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nuclear material transportation meets national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety.
