Press release

On November 15, 2005, during a ceremony held in New York, the French-American Chamber of Commerce gave its Person of the Year Award for 2005 to Anne Lauvergeon, Chairman of AREVA's Executive Board.

Every year, the Chamber of Commerce recognizes a business leader who is distinguished by the success of his international strategy and by his contribution to the development of commercial ties between France and the United States.

"This award is recognition of the work of an entire team" declared Anne Lauvergeon during the ceremony. "Beside me, thousands of associates worked to make AREVA a first-rate player in the United States, recognized by our customers, partners and all of our stakeholders."

In the past five years, the group's internal growth and targeted acquisitions have boosted growth in the U.S. nuclear sector. It has strengthened its positions in every aspect of the nuclear power cycle and won market share in enrichment and in fuel sales. As service life extensions continue, it has become the leader in the booming nuclear plant maintenance market. Through UniStar, its joint company with partner Constellation Energy, the group is planning to install the first fleet of next-generation reactors in the United States.

AREVA is now ranked first in the U.S. nuclear industry, both in terms of sales and in terms of jobs.

The group also has its sights set on the electricity transmission and distribution market, where it is a major player. Its grid management systems already route 40% of the country's electricity, and 65% of U.S. utilities use at least one of its products.

With 6,000 employees in the U.S. and more than 100 million dollars invested last year, the group plans to maintain its leadership position over the coming years by maintaining its human and financial commitment.
