AREVA meets with world nuclear industry leaders and utilities to achieve the highest level of plant safety

5/10/2012

As part of the “Safety Alliance” program AREVA has developed to help utilities demonstrate and upgrade the safety of their nuclear plant fleets, AREVA is organizing a series of meetings called “AREVA Safety Alliance Seminars” on the three priority topics identified with its utility customers: plant safety, nuclear economics and public confidence.

The first of the three Safety Alliance seminars took place over the last two days in Frankfurt, Germany, and focused on Nuclear Fleet Safety. The two-day seminar, gathering 22 utility customers, was built around 6 technical workshops presenting a number of AREVA’s Safety Alliance solutions that address the three main safety imperatives of utilities today: resistance to major hazards, cooling capability robustness, environmental damage prevention. The utilities also participated in an Innovative Solutions Technology Tour, and had the unique opportunity to visit two notable facilities:

  • AREVA’s Karlstein Technical Center, the most advanced testing center of its kind, with a comprehensive scope of laboratory services and key technologies in several test facilities for components and systems testing.
  • Thanks to the hospitality of EON, the two-unit Isar Nuclear Power Station close to Munich, that features both a BWR and a PWR plant.

The three Safety Alliance Seminars create a unique opportunity for utility leaders to share best approaches and practices with their industry peers in an open and highly interactive environment, and to identify the products and services that will help them to ensure and demonstrate achievement of new plant safety requirements.

“Safety has always been AREVA’s central priority. We are therefore committed to accompanying the industry and the utilities in continuously improving the safety performance of all nuclear facilities around the world”, said Ruben Lazo, AREVA’s Chief Commercial Officer. “This is why we have developed the Safety Alliance program that not only comprises a comprehensive range of products, services and solutions but also a dedicated R&D program and customer seminars to identify and develop the solutions that will meet the future needs of our customers”.
