AREVA Wind UK director elected to the board of RenewableUK

6/7/2012

Julian Brown, AREVA Wind’s Country Director for the UK, has been elected to the board of RenewableUK, the country’s leading renewable energy trade association. He will be one of the 12 board members of the body which represents the UK wind and marine (tidal and wave) industry.

"It is an honour to be elected to the board at a moment when renewables are assuming such importance to the UK’s energy policy. Together with my colleagues in AREVA and this fast-growing industry, I am committed to actively participate in the development of the industry”, said Julian Brown.

“I look forward to AREVA playing an increasing role in the UK industry as we develop our plans to expand in the UK and secure key contracts.”

Alain-Pierre Raynaud, Chairman of AREVA UK, said, “The successful development of offshore windpower is one of the key objectives for AREVA in the UK and our involvement with RenewableUK reflects our commitment to it”.

Julian Brown was appointed AREVA Wind Country Director for the UK in November 2011. He has over a decade of experience in the UK wind industry including the manufacture of wind-turbines and off-shore wind development.

AREVA Wind designs and manufactures wind turbines for offshore wind projects. Its flagship product, the M5000, a 5 megawatt wind turbine exclusively designed for offshore conditions, has over two years of far offshore operational experience in the German North Sea at the pilot site of Alpha Ventus, the first wind farm in far offshore German North Sea. The M5000 turbine is currently entering serial production for the Trianel wind farm Borkum (40 turbines) and Global Tech 1 (80 turbines) projects, both in the German North Sea, respectively 40 and 80 km from the shore. AREVA Wind along with its partners Iberdrola was attributed the site of Saint-Brieuc (500 MW) in the French round 1 tender for offshore wind. AREVA Wind is also positioning itself in the UK market and has recently established a UK office in Edinburgh (Scotland).
