AREVA University / Panthéon-Sorbonne University: first class of South African ‘Project Leaders’ graduates

4/23/2008
Press release
AREVA CEO Anne Lauvergeon and Pierre-Yves Hénin, Chancellor of the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, awarded the first class of "Strategy and Project Leaders for South Africa" their Master's in Economics today in Paris.

The program of excellence, launched in May 2007 by the AREVA University in partnership with the Panthéon-Sorbonne University, enabled twenty young South Africans engineers to follow a special course in economics and management given by professors from France's prestigious business school and university, as well as AREVA senior executives.

Selected on the strength of their written application and subsequent interviews, the participants - each of whom have at least five years of professional experience in engineering - then completed their training through internships.

This university partnership adds even more strength to AREVA's initiatives to offer South Africa training in and development of nuclear skills - an aim demonstrated last February, when the group and NECSA signed cooperation agreements in Cape Town in the presence of presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Thabo Mbeki.

"Training and passing on skills are of vital importance to South Africa's successful economic development. The Panthéon-Sorbonne University and the AREVA University are delighted to be making an active contribution through this excellence program.

This unique partnership between a prestigious European university and a global industrial group was made possible thanks to our partners and AREVA's Senior Executives whose mentoring of South African engineers made this ambitious initiative a reality" said Ms Lauvergeon.
