News brief

Following the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province, AREVA in China quickly mobilized to support the Chinese Red Cross emergency response fund and will make contributions of close to 100,000 euros.

AREVA is adding another 100,000 euros to supplement that local aid. This additional amount will be used to supply emergency family kits (soap, cooking utensils, etc.). One kit is enough for the needs of a family of five people for one month.

The group chose the Red Cross as the vehicle for its support; it is one of two organizations officially approved by the Chinese government to collect donations in the aftermath of the earthquake. AREVA has already cooperated with the Red Cross on disaster aid, particularly after the earthquake in Pakistan in 2005 and Hurricane Sidr in Bangladesh in 2007.

The AREVA teams directly operate in the field, by organizing and distributing first food aid intended for the earthquake victims.
