Brief

COGEMA Resources' Cluff Lake mine was recognized as Canada's safest metal mine by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). Cluff Lake was awarded the prestigious John T. Ryan award at the CIM's annual convention on May 6 for having the lowest lost time accident rate (zero) of any metal mine in Canada for 2002.

On May 1, Cluff achieved 1000 days without a lost time accident. Uranium production ceased at the Cluff Lake mine in December 2002 after about 22 years, producing over 62 million pounds of yellowcake. Site cleanup activities are taking place while the operation awaits final regulatory approval for decommissioning.
