Brief
The U.S. utility Florida Power and Light (FPL) has purchased the Seabrook Unit 1 nuclear reactor located in New Hampshire for $749.1 million U.S. As part of the acquisition, FPL has acquired the 1,194 MW pressure vessel type reactor and the assets of its decommissioning fund, and it will pay an additional $61.9 million U.S. for fuel, and a further $25.6 million for spare parts and components for the partially completed Seabrook Unit 2. At a price tag of $490 per installed kilowatt, this is near the top of prices paid for buying existing nuclear power plants in the United States thus far. FPL owns four nuclear reactors in Florida, Turkey Point Units 3 and 4 and St. Lucie Units 1 and 2.
