Industrial activity from June 5 through June 12, 2003

Treatment activity :

During this period, 22 tons of spent fuel assemblies from EDF power plants have been processed on the site.

From all treated assemblies, a total of 452 tons have been processed to date this year.

During this period, 9 canisters of fission products(1) have been produced.
Since the beginning of the year, 232 canisters have been produced.

Since the beginning of the year, the facility of hulls compaction (ACC) produced 252 canisters of compacted residues(2)

 

The firm organizes from June 5 to June 13 an event on

the theme of the sustainable development, named "Today for tomorrow".

Dedicated to the whole personnel, COGEMA employees and providers, "Today for tomorrow" lies within the scope of the national week of the sustainable development. Thanks to this event, COGEMA wishes to inform, mobilize and sensitize staff on stakes of the sustainable development and the engagement of the group in this step in its three dimensions: economical, social and environmental.

(1)The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact and resistant glass. This process is called vitrification.

(2)It is about the metal envelope of the spent fuel assemblies as well as metal waste resulting from maintenance operations of the installations.
