Treatment activity:

Like each summer, The UP2 and UP3  facilities are temporary shut down to allow rinsings, as well as modifications, work of preventive or corrective maintenance and controls according to regulations.

During this period, the UP2 800 and UP3 plants have not treated spent fuel.
From all treated assemblies, a total of 514 tons have been processed to date this year.

During this period, not any canisters of vitrified fission products have been produced(1) in , vitrification facilities. Since the beginning of the year, 585 canisters have been produced.

The facility of hulls compaction (ACC) is shut down to allow rinsings, as well as modifications, work of preventive or corrective maintenance and controls according to regulations.

Ten young people of Kazakhstan in the discovery of La Hague with AREVA.
From 6 till 19 August, the Establishment welcomes ten kazakhs teenagers. This action was organized within the framework of the operations of patronage organized by AREVA in the countries where it is implanted.
A constructive partnership undertook with the elected members of the community of municipalities of La Hague.
It ended in the organization of a stay of fortnight of discovery of the region and the French language, through numerous cultural and sports activities. Among them, many are turned to the sea which they discover for the first time..

 

(1)The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact and resistant glass. This process is called vitrification.
