Treatment activity:

The inter-campaign work 2003 planned this summer is closed, activities of the factories begins again.

During this period, the Establishment treated 12 tons of spent fuel assemblies coming from power stations EDF.

From all treated assemblies, a total of 580 tons have been processed to date this year..

During this period, 2 canisters of vitrified fission products have been produced(1).
Since the beginning of the year, 277 canisters have been produced.

Shipment activity :

A shipment containing 6 casks of spent fuel assembling coming from german power plants, arrived on August 21 at 12:20pm at the Valognes railway terminal.


The actuality, it is also....

Work of disassembling of the releases pipe continues.Work of disassembling of the old releases pipe in Zone 2
continues. It acts of the active section of the establishment closure
to the foot of cliff. Soon no more traces of the temporary diversion of the « sentier des douaniers ».If the « sentier des douaniers » found his initial route since Monday August 4,
2003, work of disassembling of the diversion of the path continues.


(1)The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact and resistant glass. This process is called vitrification.
