The examining magistrate of Cherbourg on December 6, 2001 dismissed a charge concerning four complaints deposited in 1997 and 1998 by Greenpeace against COGEMA. Greenpeace not having appealed, the order became final. The first complaint had been deposited after the setting out of water of the pipe of releases of the plant of La Hague at the time of an exceptional low tide. The three other complaints related to the presence of chips of tartar, the size of particles rejected and the presence on the maritime field of a piece of the old pipe. The dismissed charges are based on two reports of expert, appointed by the judge, which conclude, essentially, with the absence of pollution and the respect by COGEMA of the authorisations of releases.
This decision puts a term at the polemic raised in 1997 and 1998 in order to throw discredit upon our activities. It consolidates the reality of the engagement of the plant of La Hague in the environmental protection materialised in 2001 by obtaining certification ISO 14001.
