Treatment activity :
During this period, the Establishment treated  5.5 tons of fuel assemblies from a batch of GROHNDE fuel (1300 MW) . From all treated assemblies, a total of 212.5 tons have been processed to date this year. Two of the six lines of vitrification of fission products were in service. The maintenance operations continued on the other lines. Since the beginning of the year, 67 canisters have been produced. It should be noted that the facility of compaction of hulls (ACC) produced 5 canisters of residues compacted since its startup at the end of 2001. 

Shipment activity :

A shipment containing 3 casks coming from two german power plants arrived on March 22 at 14:44 pm at the railway terminal of Valognes.

Pacific Sandpiper, ship containing 3 empty casks, arrived on March 27 at the harbour of Cherbourg (quay of Les Flamands). Casks joined the railway terminal of Valognes the very same day.

The actuality, it is also...

March 26, began a reconnaissance mission on the site of disassembling, in its zone of marling, of the old pipe of releases. Works of locations should be prolonged until mid-April.

 

* the Treatment consists in separating, within spent fuel, on the one hand, the reusable materials - uranium and plutonium - in order to recycle them and, on the other hand, the ultimate residues - fission products and other waste - in order to condition them in a sure way.
** It is about the metal envelope of the spent fuel assemblies as well as metal waste resulting from maintenance operations of the installations.
