...Incident during vessel rinsing

On October 20, during preparations for the dismantling of facilities at the UP2-400 plant, two employees were contaminated during an operation.
They were quickly tended to by the medical service, which provided the necessary care.
AREVA NC made a proposal to the French nuclear safety authority, ASN, to classify this as a level 1 event on the 7-level International Scale of Nuclear Events (INES).

(1)The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact and resistant glass. This process is called vitrification.
