AREVA has signed a contract with Brazilian utility BOLT Energias for the construction of the Campo Grande biomass power plant in the state of Bahia. Once completed, this 150 MW plant will be the largest biomass facility in the country.

Under the scope of the contract, AREVA will provide engineering, procurement and construction services for Campo Grande, a plant composed of three 50 MW modules and fuelled with woody biomass.

The plant’s connection to the national electric grid is scheduled for mid 2017.

“Awarded as part of the first biomass plant project undertaken in Brazil in recent years, this success illustrates BOLT Energias’ recognition of AREVA’s knowledge in construction and technological expertise,” said Louis-François Durret, AREVA Renewables CEO. “This contract will mark the first step of a successful collaboration with our Brazilian partner.”

AREVA is an industrial leader in the field of bioenergy. The group has already built 95 biomass power plants worldwide representing an installed capacity of more than 2,500 MW.

Bolt Energias was founded in 2010. Bolt Energias is a Brazilian holding company focused on energy generation and trading, structured to operate both in spot and regulated markets. The company also develops energy efficiency projects and solutions for the power generation market segment. The goal is to establish itself as a strong player in Brazil and Latin America.
