News brief

©Mengjia School - Jingyang District - Deyang The document center at Mengjia School in Deyang, Sichuan province, China, was inaugurated on December 15th, 2011 in the presence of the AREVA group’s representatives in the country.

Mengjia School was rebuilt and opened in 2011 after it was destroyed by the May 12th, 2008 earthquake. The magnitude 8 quake left Sichuan Province in mourning, with 69,000 dead, 18,000 missing and 10 million homeless. Our group soon rallied round to provide local populations with emergency assistance.

The AREVA Foundation is funding, alongside Secours Populaire Français and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), the installation and equipping of a 150m² document center within the newly rebuilt school complex. The site meets anti-seismic building standards and has taken in 900 primary and middle school students since September 2011.
