News brief

On May 10, AREVA officially joined the ICMM, just over a year after the group commenced the application process.

The ICMM is an industrial organization that looks at key priorities and new issues in the mining and metals industry regarding sustainable development. The Group joins other major global players in the mining industry such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Anglo American…

As a new member, AREVA will now participate in themed working groups (climate change, biodiversity, health and safety…) that are held 3 times a year. The objective of these meetings is to promote collaboration between members to improve the industry’s environmental and social performance. The ICMM aims to transform the mining and metals industry into a leading contributor to sustainable development.

“The AREVA group is honoured to join the ICMM and I am personally very pleased to attend the Council's annual meetings,” said Anne Lauvergeon. “It will be for AREVA, a major mining actor, the opportunity to interact with all the member mining companies and improve best practices”.

“We are delighted to have AREVA join ICMM,” said Richard Adkerson, ICMM Chairman. “It truly demonstrates not only the commitment of this company to the principles of sustainability but also the growing recognition of ICMM’s role in helping companies address these challenges.”
