United States: AREVA reinforces manufacturing capacity for used nuclear fuel dry storage containers

8/20/2014

Columbiana Hi Tech (CHT), an AREVA subsidiary, has started construction of a new facility in North Carolina that will significantly expand the company’s capacity to manufacture dry storage containers for used nuclear fuel.

“CHT’s expanded fabrication capacity will enable AREVA to better meet the growing demand of U.S. utilities for fabricated dry-shielded canisters,” said Mike McMahon, senior vice president of AREVA TN Americas.

With four fabrication bays and a crane capacity of 40 tons, the building has been specifically designed to optimize the manufacturing of AREVA TN’s NUHOMS® dry storage canisters and will be able to produce at least 48 units per year.

The 100,000-square-foot building will host approximately 75 employees and will be the new headquarters for CHT.
